Halogen free (HF) compounds are increasingly in demand for a number of plastic applications. The most common application is wire and cable but demand for HF products is growing in many other areas. Many companies have found that a HF compound alone did not make their product halogen free. The problem is that many common pigments contain chlorine or bromine in their chemical structure.
To address this problem, Teknor Color has developed a line of halogen free colors. These 13 concentrates are based on polyethylene or ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) carriers and have been specifically formulated to avoid halogen containing pigments. Each product has undergone analytical testing to ensure halogens are not present. Teknor Color has also gone the extra step of filing for, and receiving, UL halogen free certification for these colors. Customers can now pair our HF color line with their HF compounds and know in advance that their products will meet UL certification for halogen free.
