Teknor Apex partnered with Revolutionary Medical Devices, Inc. (RMD) in developing a customized TPE solution for a new and unique medical device. RMD came to Teknor Apex seeking a super-soft gel material to form a gas-tight, low pressure seal on their new SuperNO2VATM nasal oxygenation and ventilation mask. The product’s complex design presented a major challenge. The gel-like material needed to adhere to the polypropylene-based mask using an insert molding process, which is typically difficult with TPE gels. Secondly, the cushion is designed with a massive undercut where the mask rests on the nose, requiring that the TPE gel has enough strength to not tear during mold removal.
