Sarlink thermoplastic vulcanizates, or TPVs, are used extensively in sealing applications for the industrial and building and construction industries, replacing EPDM rubber due to increased design flexibility, lower density, and recyclability. In order to produce lower cost, lighter weight seals, TPVs can be foamed a variety of ways. The type and concentration of blowing agent and processing conditions determine the final cell structure and foam density. This Sarlink Industry Bulletin provides recommendations on foaming technologies and introduces a new series of TPVs created for foaming.
How well the blowing agent dissolves in the molten polymer is a critical element of the process, so choosing the right formulation is extremely important. The Sarlink 8100 Series of TPVs are specifically formulated with optimized rheological properties to facilitate foaming. Available from 45 to 68 Shore A, these grades can be foamed using both physical and chemical blowing agents, and can be co-extruded with other TPVs, TPOs, or PP. The Sarlink 8100 Series of TPVs offer long term sealabiltiy, low-temperature flexibility, and can be heat welded.
