Sustainability Certifications at Teknor Apex

Sustainability certifications at Teknor Apex demonstrate our commitment to responsible manufacturing and global sustainability standards. These certifications ensure compliance with environmental regulations, enable material traceability across the supply chain, and support measurable sustainability performance.

Our portfolio includes key certifications such as RecyClass, ISCC PLUS, and ISO 50001, which validate recyclability, circular feedstock traceability, and energy management across our European operations.

These certifications help customers meet ESG goals, reduce carbon impact, and stay aligned with evolving sustainability standards across global markets.

Circular material and Third-party verified certifications

Teknor Apex applies these sustainability certifications, integrating them into manufacturing processes, material sourcing, and facility-level systems.

RecyClass, ISCC PLUS, and ISO 50001 are implemented across specific sites and product lines, alongside KOMO® certification for TPE pipe seals and renewable energy sourcing backed by Guarantees of Origin. These certifications are tied to defined operational scopes, including materials, production processes, and energy usage.

Each certification is independently verified through third-party audits and linked to specific facilities and production activities, ensuring consistent application, transparency, and alignment with regional and global sustainability requirements.

Circular material certifications (RecyClass & ISCC PLUS)

RecyClass Certification – Recycled Content & traceability

RecyClass Certified Products: Sarlink® Monprene®  and Crealen with Recycled Content

The RecyClass Certification confirms that specific Teknor Apex materials are compatible with established European recycling streams and meet recyclability requirements verified by independent auditors.
This certification ensures that our products:

  • Are engineered for recyclability within existing plastics recovery systems.

  • Comply with European recyclability protocols (as defined by Plastics Recyclers Europe).

  • Support closed-loop production and reduce plastic waste through circular design.

  • Are validated for polymer compatibility, colorant suitability, and processing behavior during recycling.

By incorporating RecyClass-certified compounds, Teknor Apex helps customers meet Ecodesign and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) goals while promoting sustainable product development

ISCC PLUS Certification – Verified Circular and Bio-Based Content

ISCC PLUS-certified, mass-balance attributed circular and/or bio-attributed materials: Monprene® and Sarlink®

The ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) confirms that Teknor Apex uses responsibly sourced raw materials that contribute to carbon reduction, circular feedstocks, and bio-based innovation.

Under ISCC PLUS certification, Teknor Apex demonstrates:

  • Full traceability of sustainable and renewable feedstocks across the supply chain.

  • Integration of mass-balance principles, enabling verified circular and bio-attributed materials.

  • Compliance with EU and global sustainability standards for polymer production.

  • Support for customers pursuing Scope 3 emission reduction and ESG compliance.

This certification enables Teknor Apex to supply verified sustainable compounds that help manufacturers transition from fossil-based polymers to low-carbon, circular alternatives without sacrificing performance.

In Europe, we are striving to Building a Circular Future

Together, RecyClass and ISCC PLUS certifications reinforce Teknor Apex’s mission to create materials that are responsible by design — reducing waste, increasing recyclability, and supporting customers’ sustainability commitments across global markets.

Product safety and compliance certifications

KOMO®-Certified TPE Pipe Joint Seals

Kiwa has issued KOMO® product certificates to Teknor Apex for TPE pipe joint seal materials used in non-pressure wastewater and drainage applications. These certificates confirm that the quality system and product characteristics are periodically audited and meet the technical requirements of BRL 2020-1, which in turn covers the material requirements of EN 681-2 for thermoplastic elastomer seals.

Certificate facts at a glance:

Certificate K41340/06 — Teknor Apex B.V. (Geleen, NL)

  • Scope: TPE pipe joint seals for non-pressure wastewater & drainage — MATERIAL
  • Status: Valid indefinitely (users are advised to verify current status on Kiwa’s site)
  • Notes: Kiwa confirms ongoing periodic control of product and quality system

Certificate 109169/01 — Teknor Apex Elastomers (Leominster, MA, USA)

  • Scope: TPE pipe joint seals for non-pressure wastewater & drainage — MATERIAL
  • Production site covered: Teknor Apex Genk B.V., Genk, Belgium
  • Status: Valid indefinitely with periodic control by Kiwa.

Standards & material specification

  • Guideline/BRL 2020-1 applies and references EN 681-2 (Elastomeric seals—Material requirements for pipe joint seals—Part 2: Thermoplastic elastomers).

  • Certified TPE material listed: Sarlink® 9156B, nominal hardness 60 IRHD (see technical specification, page 2 of each certificate)

Why this matters

  • Compliance confidence: Independent Kiwa verification against BRL 2020-1 / EN 681-2 demonstrates material fitness for wastewater & drainage seals.

  • Consistent quality: Certificates explicitly state periodic control of both the quality system and the product.

  • Global availability: Certificate coverage includes EU production (Genk, Belgium) supporting European projects and standards alignments.

Why These Certifications Matter for Customers and Manufacturers

Sustainability-related certifications can help customers evaluate whether specific Teknor Apex sites, products, materials, or management systems have been assessed against defined criteria. The relevance of each certification depends on its stated scope, issuing body, certificate validity period, covered location or product line, and the customer’s intended application.

Documentation to support compliance reviews

Where applicable, certificates provide documentation that the covered product, site, or management system has been evaluated against the referenced standard. Customers should review the certificate scope and confirm suitability for their application, market, and regulatory requirements.

Support for risk-based supplier evaluation

Third-party certifications can provide independently reviewed information that may help customers assess suppliers against defined sustainability, quality, energy-management, recyclability, renewable-electricity, or product-conformity criteria.

Supplier approval support

Making certificates, scope statements, and validity dates available can help customers complete supplier qualification and procurement documentation, depending on their internal approval process.

ESG and sustainability reporting support

Certification records may support customer sustainability disclosures where the certification scope and data align with the customer’s reporting framework, calculation methodology, and market-specific requirements.
